Window Covering Energy Systems

Decorating with Fabric's Window Covering Energy Systems is a complete approach to conserving energy through energy efficient window coverings and draperies.

It begins with the consultation. We offer a one on one approach. Neil Gordon, owner of Decorating with Fabric, will consult with the Architect, Designer or Facility Manager about their needs and concerns of inefficient windows. The solutions are presented with performance data, specifications, and costs. Such solutions may include some of the following options:

Warm Romans
Warm Romans are double lined shades with special construction that creates air pockets which act as an insulator on the window. The sketch below shows how the pocket of air is created by the unique construction. Not visible is the second layer of flannel lining that is placed in between the face fabric and the lining.

Warm Drapery
Drapery can be an excellent insulator. A double lined drapery (as shown below) offers 300% better performance then an unlined drapery. Along with the double lined drapery it is recommended to have a top treatment that traps the air.

EcoSmart Shades
A good insulating system protects a building from outside temperatures and protects it against air leaks. Windows are one of the greatest sources of wasted energy. The smallest gap or leak can equal as much airflow as an open window. In the winter, warm air from inside the building is trying to escape through windows. In summer, the sun conducts heat through the windows, contributing as much as 53% heat in the home. The installation of energy efficient window treatments is one of the best ways to conserve energy and reduce utility bills.

To be effective, window treatments must trap air between the shade or blind and the window glass. EcoSmart Insulating Cellular Shades act as a barrier to heat flow, trapping air between the shade and window and helping you to save money on energy costs. Adding the Energy Saving Side Track System can provide an additional barrier to seal the edges of drafty areas around windows.

SolarSmart Shades
Decorating with Fabric's SolarSmart Shades can address such concerns as heat penetration and glare control. Through careful analysis of our client's requirements we can suggest the proper fabric based on either color, openess and/or content. Additionally, our Solar Shading Systems can be designed for multiple types of installations including greenhouses, skylights and very large windows. This includes manual and motorized systems which we can successfully intergrate with any automation systems.
